The Ultimate Request

Beloved:

Recently, while going through "SECURITY" at several airports, I was reminded once again of such words as SEARCH, INSPECTION and EXAMINE, all three of which come into play when one travels by AIR in today's World. Although ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, it is the least enjoyable event at any Airport. 

The SEARCH, INSPECTION, and EXAMINATION at the Airports are NOTHING when COMPARED with THE ULTIMATE REQUEST of King David in Psalm 139:23-24, where we find these words: 

"SEARCH me, O God, and know my heart: try me and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way Everlasting." 

What a REQUEST!! 

The word for the SEARCH that David is requesting is a VERB (a verb is a word of ACTION or state of BEING). Every Verb must have a SUBJECT…and who is the SUBJECT of the verb SEARCH that King David is REQUESTING? It is none other than THE SOVEREIGN, HOLY GOD of Scripture. God's SEARCH (David's REQUEST) is a MINUTE INVESTIGATION and a DIVINE SCRUTINY. 

In the first eighteen verses of Psalm 139, King David knows that the GOD who will be doing the SEARCHING is (1) OMNISCIENT (all knowing) v. 1-6, (2) OMNIPRESENT (all seeing) v. 7-12, and (3) OMNIPOTENT (all powerful) v. 13-18. Because of these ATTRIBUTES of GOD, CONCEALMENT IS IMPOSSIBLE in regards to GOD'S SEARCH. 

In the matter of a GOD-SENT REVIVAL among God's People, is not King David's ULTIMATE REQUEST the GREAT NEED of THE HOUR? Dare we ever expect to witness GOD'S FIRES OF REVIVAL within the LOCAL CHURCHES without this SEARCH? 

In conclusion, may I remind us the Reason for the SEARCH was NOT for God's BENEFIT but rather for OURS! God's Searching Questions in the Scripture (see Genesis 3:9) are NEVER for HIS BENEFIT but for OURS!
