The Big "If"

Among God’s people is a Bible verse often quoted in the context of revival and the need for spiritual awakening. Most of us are familiar with the scripture:

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

We MUST be careful not to lift that truth from its context. In the previous verse, the LORD told Solomon: “IF I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or IF I command the locusts to devour the land, or IF I send pestilence among my people” (7:13).

The three mentions of “If I” in 7:13 set the stage for the promise of healing for the land in 7:14. The God of Israel promised a divine SOLUTION for the drought, locust and pestilence he SENT on the condition of prayer coupled with a turning from the WICKEDNESS that caused the problems.

I wonder: Is it possible the “Wuhan Virus” (COVID-19) has its origin elsewhere? Is there possibly an “IF I” component involved?

The Lord can use droughts, bugs and other forms of pestilence to get man’s attention over his wicked ways. So how about a MICROSCOPIC MENACE for which man at present has no answers?

Behind every “IF MY PEOPLE” promise God made Solomon was an “IF I” problem designed to motivate his people to seek a divine solution through repentance. Only God knows whether the “Wuhan Virus” is an “If I” event.
