Abortion:
An 'Un-Christian' Act
While perusing the World Net Daily
(WND) website, I ran across this headline: “Minister: Opposing Abortion
‘Flies in the Face of Jesus’ Teaching.” The headline reflected a
comment made by a North Carolina professor of religious studies, one
Rebecca Todd Peters, who is also a Presbyterian minister. She argued
Christians should support abortions for any reason a woman wants, and
added: “To oppose abortion ‘flies in the face' of Jesus’
teachings.”
More specifically, she claimed as
“un-Christian” (1) any attempt to require a woman to “justify” her
reasons for wanting to abort her child, and (2) any attempt to force a
woman to continue her pregnancy against her will.
Now, if there was a Bible College or
Seminary course entitled “Pregnancy 101” designed to prepare ministers
of the gospel to deal with pregnancy issues, here are some truths to
which the professor would expose students on Week One:
(1) Human life is an extension of
God’s creative power:
“So God created man in his own
image,
in the image of God created he him; male and female created he
them” – Genesis 1:27.
(2) Since Jesus created all things,
he is responsible for the creation of every human life:
“All things were made by him; and
without him was not any thing made that was made” — John
1:3.
“For by him were all things
created,
that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible,
whether they be thrones, or dominions,
or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for
him” – Colossians 1:16.
(3) An unborn fetus represents the
creative work of God as he fashions every body part in the secrecy of
its mother’s womb:
“For thou hast possessed my
reins:
thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am
fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my
soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was
made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book
all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when
as yet there was none of them” — Psalm 139:13-16.
In others words, it is Jesus who
brings sperm and egg together, and for nine months “fashions” the fetus
to be the person he is “creating” it to be. From conception to
delivery, the time a fetus spends in the womb is a creative process
orchestrated by Jesus himself. What actually ‘flies in the face of
Jesus’ is an abortive act which destroys what Jesus is in the process
of creating! From a biblical perspective, there is NO act more
un-Christian than an abortion. So how can it be ‘un-Christian’ to
dissuade a woman from doing an ‘un-Christian’ thing?
This Presbyterian minister
masquerading as a ‘religious’ professor is willingly ignorant of basic
biblical truth. How the religious department of UNC could give a
lectern to such an ignoramus is mind-boggling to say the least. The
problem with this professor is Political Correctness. The
TRUE Christian allows the scriptures to shape and determine
their world view. They view the world through the lens of scripture.
The FAUX Christian, on the other hand, has a world view shaped
by Political Correctness. They view scripture through a PC lens and
impose a PC template upon it.
It is indeed difficult to fathom the
depth of spiritual darkness in ANY individual who would strain at the
gnat of a woman’s ‘feelings’ while swallowing the camel of a woman
killing her baby.
