Transitory Troubles

An enlightening series of events took place in Jeremiah Chapter 28. In the previous Chapter, the Lord had instructed Jeremiah to make a yoke and place it around his neck as preparation for an object lesson to Israel (27:2). Jeremiah had been prophesying Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would take many in Israel into captivity for a period of seventy years. He did so “in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month” (28:1).

It was in that same year “that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of Gibeon, spake unto me [while I was wearing the yoke of wood] in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people.” He prophesied: “Within TWO full years [not SEVENTY as you’ve been hearing from Jeremiah] will I bring again into this place all the vessels of the LORD'S house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon” (28:3).

In other words, God’s judgment upon, his chastening of, Israel is going to be SEASONAL rather than GENERATIONAL. What you’re now experiencing is TRANSITORY in nature. Within two years all will be back to normal with all the temple treasures restored.

Jeremiah responded to his fellow prophet: “Amen: the LORD do so: the LORD perform thy words [if indeed HE gave to THEE a word overriding what HE gave to ME] which thou hast prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD'S house [within two years], and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this place” (28:6).

But such was not to be the case. Here’s what the Lord told Jeremiah to tell Hananiah: “Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a LIE” (28:15). The Lord continued: “Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD” (28:16). So Hananiah the [false] prophet “died the same year in the seventh month” (28:17).

There is no Jeremiah in America today prophesying destruction for our national wickedness. If there was, our leaders would likely be plotting his death even as the religious elites in Jeremiah’s day plotted his.

But ALL signs are pointing to God’s judgment upon America—inflation, alien invasion, supply chain woes, energy crisis, COVID pandemic et all—facilitated and exasperated by the election of a godless Joe Biden. (Could Biden be America's Nebuchadnezzar?)

The architects behind the chaos tell us it’s TRANSITORY. In other words, these troubles are SEASONAL rather than GENERATIONAL. Well, are they? Or are our leaders LYING to us like Hananiah of old when God is in the process of rewarding America for its wicked rebellion?
