A
Land Given
The 135th Psalm is a call to “praise
the LORD” for all he had done for his people Israel, including their
deliverance from Egypt. In 135:3, he exclaims: “Praise the LORD; for
the LORD is good: sing
praises unto his name; for it is pleasant.” The goodness of God is a
theme the biblical writers embraced throughout the scriptures. God is
good all the time, which is reason for his people to praise him.
In 135:5, he offers another tribute:
“For I know that the LORD is
great, and that our Lord is above all gods.” In addition to God’s
GOODNESS is his GREATNESS! As the one TRUE God, he renders all the
other gods FALSE gods. In 135:5, he calls attention to God’s
good PLEASURE to do with his
creation whatsoever it pleased him to do: “Whatsoever the LORD pleased,
that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.”
And he’s STILL doing whatsoever pleases him!
One of his good pleasures was to give
Israel a LAND of its own: “Who
smote great nations, and slew mighty kings; Sihon king of the Amorites,
and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan: And gave THEIR
LAND for an heritage, an heritage UNTO ISRAEL his people” (135:10-12).
Now some might question whether God was FAIR in destroying the
inhabitants of Canaan and delivering THEIR LAND to Israel. The fact is
God had the title deed long before heathen kings corrupted it with
idolatry and wickedness. When God “smote” and “slew” the
heathen, he was, in fact, CLEANING the
place up! Canaan was rife was idolatry, corruption and war long before
God handed it over to his people.
That brings us to America. Isn’t it
possible, yea probable, that it was
a sovereign God, doing that which pleased him, who gave to our
forefathers, true worshippers that fled religious persecution to
establish FREEDOM, the LAND we now know as the contiguous forty-eight
states? Those we refer to as ‘Native Americans’ were
idolaters rife with false
gods, like the Canaanites, killing and scalping one another in savage
fashion in LAND wars long before we arrived. Our forefathers made the
treacherous trek across the Atlantic, under
the providential hand of God, for the express purpose of CLEANING the
place up!
This is a perspective ignored,
overlooked by historians, and especially
the modern-day CRT advocates who claim our forefathers were Racists and
White Supremacists. The fact is they were nothing more or less than
lovers of LIBERTY!
We must keep in mind the same God
whose good pleasure it was to GIVE us
a LAND can just as easily take it away IF we eschew him and embrace
false gods. As Israel of old, polluting the LAND GOD GAVE them with
idolatry and moral corruption, so has America polluted the LAND GOD
GAVE us. America is A LAND GIVEN to us by God. Let’s pray
that one day we
Americans will NOT have to join Job in lamenting, “The LORD gave, and
the LORD hath taken away” (Job 1:21).
